Well, actually, it was me in Venice. I was fortunate enough to spend my (gulp) 40th birthday there trying to forget that I was turning 40. Venice is a pretty great place to do that since its aging walls are more pocked and cracked than my face..... but only slightly. It just so happens that during the few days we were visiting, my business partner, Vikki, was in conversation with Annie Sloan for our fledgling business to become a stockist. So much to my husband's dismay (ok, actually he was super encouraging, but that doesn't make for such a good story....) I was furiously texting and checking my email throughout the days waiting for the good word. As much as I tried to focus on the moment at hand with my wonderful husband, Arnaud (and without children!) I had Annie's colours, which are dripping with history, on the brain and of course I saw them at every turn.
While neutrals rule in Piazza San Marcos, the canals and side streets sing with color......
Such an elegant means of transportation, don't you think? My birthday surprise was a private ride. Our gondolier fancied himself the great, great grandson of Giacomo Casanova and didn't miss a chance to wink or show off his smile.....
In this view of the Grand Canal from the Rialto bridge, I see Annie all over the place..... Provence inside the windows on the right, Persian Green awnings and Old White dilutions of Arles and Barcelona on the facades.
Hello Miss Antoinette! Lovely to see you!
Soem combinations are amazingly surprising..... who would have thought of these?
In retrospect, it was quite a wonderful distraction and one that would come to define my 41st year as I've watched this small dream blossom into a growing business where I get to be creative, share my passion and continue learning. Classes are filling up, the shop is coming together, and the new atelier is ready. What a year!
This was the photograph I really wanted to take., or the , alas it was being worked on when we floated under its amazing Paris Grey, Original and Graphite archway. Was it sunset? Yes. Did we kiss? I hardly remember. Does it really matter? No. he's a keeper.
Thanks for stopping by! We so appreciate each and every one of your comments so please, keep them coming!
