Vikki's keen eyed girls stumbled across these worse for wear chairs at our favorite (ok, favourite) brocante last week.....
Mme Étincelles suggested we do them together (and I'm so thankful!) as I have a bit more reupholstering experience - trial by fire with a found Hickory Sheraton Sofa (left out for bulk pick up - youpie! I love freebies!) It needed to be completely stripped down to nothing & rebuilt from scratch (cardboard, chewing gum hot glue and ingenuity.) First I painted it, but this was before I knew about AS, so I used leftover Benjamin Moore with a glaze. I was lucky enough to find an entire bolt of F. Schumacher & Co. uphuostery weight lined linen on ebay for a steal from someone who had a change of heart about the color.
This is the look I was going for, minus the brass nail heads which are too fussy for my taste:
This is how it turned out......
So these chairs........ This is our inspiration piece:
And here's where we are today after two coats of ASCP Louis Blue, a wash of Old White, Country Grey & Coco and a good waxing......
We plan to upholster the seat & back cushion in a great, nubby, grey linen, leave the exposed back in hessian & double pipe it in an off white vintage French linen..... so off I go to make that piping!
They'll be up for sale at the Marché (along with lots of other great stuff) unless someone claims them first! I'll post some shots of the finished work once we're done.
Thanks for stopping by! Please do let us know what you think, we love your comments!
